M1 Fitness Glasgow
Mark Jamieson - My Story
M1 Fitness Glasgow is a dream come true for me and is the result of many years of hard work. Here is my story so far.
For as long as I can remember I have wanted to work in a gym. I first convinced my mum to take me to a gym when I was 14 and I was hooked immediately. By the time I was 16 people were convinced that I lived in the gym I was in there so often.
My first job after school was with a member of the family’s business. It was hard work, I learnt a lot and it taught me two key lessons:
1) you need a clear vision of what you want to achieve.
2) you need to work hard to succeed.
I made the decision to commit to the fitness industry in 2010 and in 2011 I gained my first qualification as a gym instructor. I then looked to gain as much experience as I could and worked across a number of gyms over the next two years.
My decision to become a Personal Trainer came in 2013. I loved working with people, helping them get fit and feeling great about themselves. It was a natural next step for me and I then successfully completed my Level Three Personal Training qualification. It seemed obvious to me that I should be qualified at what I do for a living.
I have always been keen on contact sports and began to experiment with Jiu-jitsu, Mauy Thai and Boxing. Boxing was the one for me and I quickly decided to commit to reaching amateur level and fighting competitively.
My last fight was in 2022 and I intend to fight again in the future. Apart from the fact that I really enjoy the experience it gives me the ability to use this to help my clients and speak with the voice of someone who has actually been there.
I opened the gym in 2021. It was towards the end of the Covid lockdowns and a bit of a risky time to open up. Looking back though, it is the best thing I have ever done and has given me a platform for the future.
The gym reflects my passions – fitness, personal training and boxing.
Outside the gym my focus is family, friends, fitness, boxing and my new puppy which certainly keeps me on my toes.
A balanced life is not always easy, but it is essential. Something which I try to pass on to all my clients.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story. I hope it helps you understand a little more about me.
